Abstract

Printed instructional material is one of the foundations used in distance education, and it is a basic system in delivering knowledge to learners. We study on the area of the instructional evaluation research that rely on Dick-Carey evaluating process (UT, 2012). This study is focused on the instructional analysis of validity that conducted by expert reviews and student expectations. It attempts to identify the level of quality, and the points of the essential objectives for formative evaluation. We used three modules on Quantitative Methods subject course used in Indonesia Open University (UT) graduate degree program as set of study subjects. The qualitative data are collected from a subject matter expert, an instructional design expert, and three students by using standardized questionnaires that constructed by UT. The study produces a description of quality profiles and some specific states of the modules while they are required revising. We identify that the eligibility of the three studied modules are different to each other according to the review’s expert. On the students’ views, the eligibility of the modules are indicated not different to each other, but within each modules is assesed differently by students. A number of compliance that lack of quality are recognized to be evaluated and revised on formative evaluation task. We hope some results and outcomes of this study would direct instructional designer to construct some essential objectives on further evaluation.
