Abstract

This research aims to investigate students' perception on face to face tutorials at Universitas Terbuka. The respondents were 100 students from Jakarta and 100 students from Bandung where each location consisted of 50 students from Faculty of Education and 50 students from Faculty of Economics and Faculty of Social Sciences. Students' value was correlated to students' satisfaction. Also students' satisfaction was correlated to other variables. In addition the regression function was created between students' satisfaction and the rest of variables with considering interaction between some variables. Four latent variables which were tutors' ability in explaining the contents, tutors' ability in communication, results of tutorials and students' satisfaction were compared between students' perception from Jakarta and Bandung also between students' perception from Faculty of Education and Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences. The results were: (1) 20 out of 67 staments on students perception have to be considered by UPBJJ and UT management because they had "low" response from the students (2) correlation coefficients between students value and students satisfaction was positively significant (3) correlation coefficients between tutorials preparation (FLST), materials' mastery (FLKM), teaching ability (FLPM), communication ability (FLKK), tutors' obidience (FLDT). tutorial's result (FLHT). tutorial's cost (FLBT) and students' satisfaction were positively Significant (4) the regression equations including interactions from some variables existed (5) at UPBJJ Jakarta, tutors from Faculty of Education had better ability in communicating with the students than tutors from other Faculties (6) tutors from Economics Faculty and Social Sciences Faculty in Bandung had better ability in explaining tutorial concepts than tutors from Jakarta. Also, students' perception from Bandung on tutorial's results was higher than the students' perception from Jakarta. Based on these findings, it was suggested that managements from UPBJJ and UT have to revise some rules on face to face tutorials and ask tutors to do better performance on some points which had "low" perception from students.
