Abstract

This research is using descriptive and comparative survey method, with two variables, (1) Motivation and (2) attitudes and readiness of kindergarten teachers in using computers as media in early childhood development activities. The purpose of this study was to obtain an overview of (1) how high the motivation, attitude and readiness of kindergarten teachers is in using computers as media in early childhood development activities , and (2) whether there is a difference in motivation, attitude and readiness of kindergarten teachers in using computer as media in early childhood development activities. The study involved 225 kindergarten teachers in the district of Bantul (representing a population of 1686 teachers from 520 kindergarten units, spreading over 17 districts). Sampling in this study was done by purposive random sampling due to the homogeneity of motivation, attitude and readiness of research population was low. Furthermore, the data obtained were analyzed with descriptive statistics and comparative statistics. T-test for two independent samples was used. Of the 255 respondent 227 return the questionnaire. From the 227 questionnaires 9 were invalid and dropped. Therefore, only 218 questionnaires were analyzed. The results of the descriptive analysis showed that the average score of kindergarten teachers’ motivation in using the computer as media in early children development activities is 40,23 which is in between the score obtained with high, 36,00 and very high 48,00 categories. The average score of the attitudes and readiness of kindergarten teachers reached 46.67 which is also in between the average high 42, 00 and very high 56, 00 categories. From the results of the comparative analysis it is known that: (1) based on their educational background early childhood (EC) and non-early childhood (Non-EC) kindergarten teachers’ motivation, t-count 2.912, with 0.004 significance level (p <5%); village and towns kindergarten teachers t-count 0.764 with a significance level of 0.445 (p> 5%). Attitude and readiness of EC C and Non-EC kindergarten teachers, t-count 3320 0.001 (p <1%) Therefore, it can be stated that there are differences in motivation, attitude and readiness of EC and Non-EC, village and town kindergarten teachers in using computers as media in early children development activities, although the difference is not significant.
