Abstract
The entry of foreign retail 10 Indonesia is one of Lhe globalizalion consequences which encourage market liberalization. Indonesia faces the growing of the new form of capitalism. The situation can be seen from Lhe existence of a modern markel in Indonesia which is experiencing very rapid growth thai negatively impact small retail. Modern markets are largely owned by foreign retailers and local conglomerate will replace Lhe role of traditional market majority owned by small business communities that previously controlled the retail business in indonesia. This paper reviewed the inequality between the modern market versus traditional markets using ethical theory based on the consideration of an ethical issues. This paper analyze the ethical theory by emphasizing on three theories such as: theory of hedonism ethics, deontological ethics and theological elhics. According to the the01y of hedonism ethics, development of modern markets is unethical because it will make people more consumptive, on~y the pursuit ofmalerialistic. Based on deontological ethical theory, the existence of a modern market is considered unethical in their business aclivities. Case of modern market expansion is considered unelhical in terms of ethical theology for causing misery to small retailers and traders in traditional markets.
