Abstract
“Immersion in texts” approach is one of alternatives that can be used to improve children’s reading interest in early ages. The objectives of this action research are to describe the implementation “immersion in texts” approach in kindergarten, to describe the development children’s reading interest during the research, and to identify constraints during the implementation of this approach. This research was conducted in the first semester in 2007 at TK Lebah Madu Jakarta Timur by involving 22 grade A students. This action research began with a media development planning in line with reading stimulation strategy. The research was conducted in two cycles and each cycle consisted of four sessions. Formal observation and field notes were employed as the research instruments. Analysis and reflection were conducted by the research leader as well as the teachers. It can be concluded that after the action research, children’s reading interest are highly improved,which indicated by consistent children’s changed behaviors in listening to stories,exploring books, telling ideas, and having more attention in observing picture series books.
