Abstract

In Patrang Subdistrict at Jember Regency there has been a decline in water catchment areas caused by land conversion and tree felling. The community service activity aims to provide information and training on biopori technology in the RW 016 area of Patrang Village at Patrang Subdistrict as a solution for flood prevention. Biopori hole making functions to increase water absorption; prevent flood; improve the quality of ground water, organic waste disposal sites, and convert organic waste into compost. In the period from September to November 2017 the PKM team conducted training, counseling, and assisted in the making of biopores attended by 30 representatives from 5 RTs of RW 16. The results were: 1) residents understood the benefits and importance of making biopori, 2) there were 125 biopori that were successfully made in RW 016, 3) floods or inundations that always occur in the rainy season can be overcome, compost is used to fertilize crops, and many residents independently make biopori in their home yard.
