Abstract

Kolam Village is located in Deli Serdang, Medan with the low quality of Human Resources (HR), became the attention of the UPBJJ-UT Medan Community Service team (Abdimas) which strives to improve education motivation through reading interest. It is expected that with the implementation of this activity a Kolam Village will be formed as a Literacy Village with, highly educated motivation and access to books and other sources of knowledge. Literacy Village developed activities collaboration with various partners conducted a series of 5 primary school socialization and roadshows as well as non-formal education for school-age children, youth and the general public by developing learning centers and reading parks. The methods applied are lectures, discussions, playing, quizzes and film screenings. To support the Village Library, the Abdimas team provided 500 books, one laptop and a mobiler consisting of bookshelves, reading tables and chairs.While, The mothers /women were given training using the "Read Aloud" technique, which is a loud reading technique in 4 groups.
