Indonesia Open University (IOU) or Universitas Terbuka (UT) is the only public university in Indonesia that operates the indirect teaching learning in higher education level. Its program is carried out through distance education system by using variety of media and using multi technology and instructional systems design that are effectively incorporated in delivering education to students who are not physically "on site" to receive their education. IOU has developed multi-media learning packages for its students, with the printed materials as the major media supplemented with audio cassettes, video programs, computer-assisted instruction, web-based materials and online tutorials. The courses are implemented with various media such as instructional module (printed materials) as the major media supplemented with audio cassettes, video programs, computer-assisted instruction, web-based materials and online tutorials. Correspondence conducted through regular mail, Internet conducted either synchronously or asynchronously, telecourse/broadcast where content is delivered via radio or television, CD-ROM where the student interacts with computer content stored on a CD-ROM , etc. In addition, during certain period of time, students of IOU have also got learning experience via face to face tutorial activities presented by tutors and they have also chances to use Student Learning Centre (SLC) provided by 37 UT’S regional offices in the whole country. A number of tutorial methods have been implemented, namely face-to-face, written, broadcast, and online tutorials. The purpose of this paper are : (i) to present advantages of using student learning center for the benefit of students ; (ii) to identify problems and obstacles found by the operator in managing students learning center; (3) to improve meaningful services of student learning center to support students in gaining information they need. The result of this paper is to have optimum productivity of student learning center for the benefit of student learning. In addition the paper also describes advantages and challenges of SLC in supporting students learning experiences.
