Abstract

The changing of strategic management paradigm from outside-in approach toward inside-out approach shows the critical role of Strategic Human Resource Management (SHRM) in organizations. Based on the Theory of Resources-Based View (RBV), an organization may start the strategy formulation process by using resources and capabilities as starting point to build sustainable competitive advantage and core competence. As a key to organization success, cultivating core competence becomes the most important role of SHRM by managing intellectual capital and innovative capabilities as sources of sustainable competitive advantages. The increasing roles of SHRM were significantly viewed by evaluating HR concepts and practices. The evolution process includes restructuring, re-engineering of business strategy, people, and organizational objectives substantially. This article explains the relationship between sustainable competitive advantage and the building of core competence based on intellectual capital and innovative capabilities. Hence, explaining roles and contributions of SHRM as a complementary approach into formulation strategy process based on the Theory of RBV.
