Abstract

Ornamental plants are plants that are in demand by many people, especially because they have aesthetic aspects that can meet the comfort needs of the community. Rapid development related to the number of ornamental plant farmers occurred during the Covid-19 pandemic in early 2020, especially potted ornamental plants that are kept at home. The demand for ornamental plants is quite high, not only from local people, but also from foreign markets. The Teras Hijau Cipulus (THC) farmer group is one of the largest ornamental plant farmer groups in the Tamansari Bogor District. High market demand occurs when this farmer group participates in ornamental plant exhibitions in various regions, including requests to be sent outside Indonesia. However, not many farmers understand the procedures for safe packaging of ornamental plants for long-distance shipping and not many farmers understand the procedures for exporting ornamental plants. Based on these conditions, it is necessary to provide a form of guidance for THC farmers regarding the packaging and shipping of ornamental plants for export, one of which is carried out through Community Service activities by UT. The method of implementing mentoring is carried out in several steps, namely: (1) identifying farmer needs, (2) seeking secondary information related to packaging techniques and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for ornamental plant exports, (3) planning practical packaging activities for export, (4) seeking parties experienced in ornamental plant export activities, and (5) providing guidance on export SOPs and ornamental plant packaging practices for export. The activity was held at the THC Farmer Group location, attended by 10 members of the farmer group. The activity was carried out in 3 (three) meetings, starting with the preparation of plans, implementation of activities and evaluation of activities. The results of the mentoring showed changes in farmers' knowledge and attitudes related to ornamental plant export SOPs coupled with changes in farmers' skills related to ornamental plant packaging. The expected impact is that, in addition to local cultivation and marketing, farmers are also starting to try to develop the ornamental plant market to the international realm through applicable export procedures
