Abstract

This study, "The Track Record of Women as Actors in Cultural Preservation Through Traditional Hand-Written Batik (A Case Study of Women's Roles in Inscribing Monumental Works into Hand-Written Batik Patterns in Central Java") aims to explore, identify, and analyze the crucial role of women as key actors in cultural preservation through the creation and transmission of local traditional fabrics, particularly hand-drawn batik, in Central Java. The research methodology employed in this study is qualitative, employing both a library and documentary approach. The researchers comprehensively collected secondary data from various scientific literature, cultural history books, accredited scientific journals, monographs, and written and visual archival documents related to the batik tradition driven by women's communities in Central Java. The collected data was then reduced, categorized thematically, critically analyzed, and synthesized in depth to obtain a comprehensive picture of women's real contributions in both the domestic and public spheres. The analysis shows that women play a vital multifaceted role, from preserving the authenticity of ancient motifs and determining intergenerational batik patterns to driving the community-based creative economy. Through each piece of cloth, women successfully document oral history, mythology, and local wisdom not recorded in formal history books. Another impact of women's hand-drawn batik demonstrates the need for legal protection for this monumental artwork, in addition to government support in terms of funding and marketing, as the artworks of these creative women have promising economic value.
