Abstract
Reading comprehension and interest are essential to improve students' academic success. Therefore, students in education must have comprehension, which is also influenced by their reading interests. This study aims to find whether any effect of using audiobooks on students' reading comprehension and reading interest. This study has been conducted on students with a total population of 212 students. the sample taken to be used as respondents is 30 students. These 30 respondents were divided into two groups, namely the control group and the experimental group that had received treatment. This study used a mixed methods research approach ( combined quantitative and qualitative) to find whether any effect of using audiobooks on student's reading comprehension and their reading interest. The data collected by this study was by tests to find whether any effect of students' reading comprehension levels before and after using audiobooks. Moreover questionnaires were also used to find whether any effect on students' reading interest before and after using audiobooks. The researcher also used a semi-structured interview to explore students' perception on the use of audiobook. The results of this study show that if the significance value (Sig.) 2-tailed is smaller than 0.05 then HO is not accepted and Ha is rejected where the results show that there is an effect of using Audiobooks in students' reading comprehension. Based on the results obtained from the questionnaire data, students who use audiobooks have a higher interest in reading than students who do not use audiobooks. This data is also supported by document data which are students report books, where the data shoed that students who use audiobooks, read more books than students who do not use audiobooks. In addition, in the t-test column, there is a result with a negative sign of -7.695. This did not indicate that the calculated hcore is lower than the hable but this score indicates that the average learning outcomes in students who are not taught using audiobooks are lower than the average of students who are taught who are taught using audiobooks. In other words, if a comparison is made between the hount and the hable, the value of the hount is positive. Data from the results of semi-structured interviews also support test data where from the results of the interview, it can be found that students who use audiobooks feel helped in understanding reading and have a desire to read books while listening to audio. From the data analysis that has been done, the results show that there is an effect of using audiobooks on students' reading comprehension and reading interest. Based on the findings from the results of this study, it is recommended that teachers consider adopting the use of Audiobooks in their teaching, particularly in the teaching of reading.
