Abstract

Open University (UT) students can study individually, in groups, and online. Practikum in a course at UT, like other subjects. Practicum course include science, physics, chemistry, and biology practicum. Practicum is a form of learning activities through observation, ex-periment, or testing a concept, and principles. Conducted inside and outside the laboratory, aims to strengthen lecture material. The material for practicum at UT is an activity guide, packaged in the form of modules. Implementation was carried out throughout the UPBJJ-UT in Indonesia, guided by instructors appointed by the local UPBJJ-UT. The purpose of the study was to examine the model of carrying outthe science teaching practicum FKIP-UT so that the lecture practicum at FKIP-UT. had good quality. Based on the data obtained that the implementation of PMIPA-FKIP-UT practicum is not as easy as Convenitional University. One and the other students are difficult to meet, because the location of residence dwells, and the UPBJJ has difficulty determining the implementation. UPBJJ adopted a policy that students practice in a high school near their homes and activities are managed by Learning Groups (Pokjar) in the regency. The results of interviews from the Head of UPBJJ and BBLBA Coordinator, if partnered with a local university, the cost is too high especially if the number of students is small. This is an obstacle in the implementation of practicum in each UPBJJ. In general, the current model has been to orient the instructor, laboratory assistant and report assessor. Monitoring is carried out by UPBJJ-UT academic staff once during the activity. It was felt the implementation of the model was quite difficult, due to the limitations of the instructor as a supervisor on site. Submission of funds to the Central UT is not well understood by the managers at UPBJJ, so a model and financing mechanism that refers to implementation is needed.
