Abstract

Human trafficking is one of the practices of modern slavery that violates every aspect of human rights. Indonesia is one of the main countries of origin,destination, and transit for victims of forced labor and victims of sex trafficking. This research was based on the high number of cases of human trafficking and the Indonesian government's efforts to address this issue. This paper analyzed the role of comic books as a medium of socialization and learning, by specializing in comic of "Lika-liku Perdagangan Orang" which aimed to increase public awareness about the dangers of trafficking crimes. This paper examined the challenges faced by conventional media in the era of digitalization of media and information. Through this paper, researchers would like to analyze the function of comics pedagogic as a method of learning communication, the existence of the comic of "Lika-liku Perdagangan Orang" as a medium of socialization to prospective Indonesian migrant workers, and the challenges this comic faced in a competition with other communication media in the industrial revolution era 4.0. The research method used in this study was a qualitative research method where the writer used data collection techniques through interviews and literature studies. The interview was conducted with IOM as the institution that compiled the making of this comic and with BNP2TKI as an institution that carried out socialization and debriefing to prospective Indonesian migrant workers. Literature studies were carried out by analyzing the literature obtained from books, scientific journals, news and other sources. The theory used was Mass Communication Theory and Comics as a concept of thought. The results of the research obtained the existence of the comic of "Lika-liku Perdagangan Orang" helped in facilitating the socialization and understanding of prospective migrant workers about human trafficking. However, this media had challenges in measuring the level of success and also the media that were developing in the community were increasingly advanced. The form of comic books that were still considered as conventional media must compete with other digital media as an effective source of information.
