Abstract
The 2019 Open Society Conference takes the theme "Democracy and Public Accountability in Digital Era". In my opinion, the theme of the conference is very relevant to the current, because democracy has evolved. Democracy is not only interpreted as a rule of law, there are other dynamic aspects in applying the concept of democracy. In the digital era, political, social and economic rights are parts of democracy which must be continually fought for the welfare of humanity. The principle of government for the people as one of the principles of democracy, in addition to government of the people and government by the people, must be voiced continuously. The principle of government for the people relates to public accountability. In principle, everything that is done by the government or not done by the government must be held accountable to citizens. Today, democracy broadens its scope in economic and social dimensions. Modern countries regulate taxes, minimum wages, pensions, public education, insurance, unemployment and poverty. The state has a role in regulating such that the existence of the state is not disturbed by depression and economic crisis. Democracy also encourages the economic rights of citizens to create entrepreneurship, which is currently developing not only limited to the economic field but also extends to socio- entrepreneurship. In the current digital era, democracy and public accountability are supported by the presence of information society which is supported by the development of information technology. This creates a "new space" that is artificial and virtual - known as cyberspace. Cyberspace has shifted various human activities (political, social, economic, cultural, spiritual, and sexual) in the real world into various forms of artificial substitution, including sociopreunership, presentation of information, data, financial statements, and relations between the state and citizens
