Abstract

This research is an action research aimed to improve the tacher’s way of creating a learning situation. This research was based on classroom observation in which the teaching of natural science had not been based on the objective of learning natural science as stated in 1994 Elementary School curriculum. student activities were still limited and the situation in the classroom was dominated by the teacher. The problem of this research was “how far the fourth grade students achieved and apply the concept of air aftr they learned it through the model of learning cycle” The subjects of this research were teacher s and 35 fourth grade students in a piblik elementary school in East Jakarta. The data were collected trough the observation and reflection of 3 cycle of learning activites in which teachers and students learned the concepts of air by using the model of learning cycles, pre test and post test , and questionair given to student s about learning the concepts of air related to the daily activities in their environment. The result of this research were (a) from 3 learning cycle, teachers found out the weaknessses of the learning processand were able to apply the model of leaning cycles. There is improvement in students’ activities in the classroom.; (b)students’ concepts of air improfment after the learning . It can be see from the result of pre test (23,4%) and post test (55%); (c) students’ understanding to apply the concept increased . In pre test, students only gaimed 17% while in post test they got 53%; (d) after implementing the learning design teachers were impressed in the situation of teaching learning in the classroom and students were motivated to study.
